History

History keeps saved versions of your document so you can look back before an AI change, compare, and restore without risking the draft you have now. It saves versions, not every keystroke.

Open History

In the document or campaign editor, click the History button in the header. In the flow editor, select an email on the canvas and open the History tab in the right rail.

What gets saved

MX saves a version automatically before it changes your draft for you, and when you restore. Each row shows when it was saved and by whom, with a short reason such as Before AI run, Before AI suggestion, Before restore, or Saved copy. Versions are grouped by day.

Checkpoints and protected drafts are kept. Beyond those, MX keeps up to 25 other automatic versions per document, removing the oldest as new ones arrive.

Save a checkpoint

Click Save checkpoint at the top of the panel, give it a name, and click Save. Checkpoints stay until you remove them, so use one before a big rewrite or when a draft is ready to share. You can Rename or Remove a checkpoint later from its row.

Preview and compare

Select a version and click Preview. The preview is read-only, so nothing changes in your draft while you look.

• Saved version shows the version as it was.
• Compare with current highlights what changed, with a count of words added and removed and Previous change / Next change to step through.
• Version details lists the title, subject, preview text, and sender that were saved with the version. Older versions may say “Body and title only. Email fields were not saved.”
• Copy puts the version on your clipboard. Download saves it as a Markdown file.

Restore a version

From the preview, click Restore, then confirm with Restore version. MX first backs up your current version, then replaces the body and title, and the subject, preview text, and sender when the version saved them. A Version restored message confirms it.

An Undo button appears next to Current version while the backup is available. Click it to go back to the draft you had before restoring. The backup is also kept in History with a Kept badge, so you can find it later even if you closed the panel.

Note

If the document has AI suggestions waiting, review those first. Restore is unavailable until the pending suggestion is accepted or dismissed.

Protected versions

Some versions carry a Kept badge. These are checkpoints, the draft saved before AI changes, the backup that makes Undo possible, and the oldest available draft. They are not removed by the 25-version limit. Only checkpoints can be renamed or removed by hand.

Size limits

Very large documents cannot be saved as a version. If you see “This document is too large to save as a version”, trim images or split the copy into more than one document, then try again.
